Pacific Grove :

Pacific Grove, known by residents as "PG", is a quaint town located between Monterey and Pebble Beach. PG is an historical town characterized by its stunning coastal vistas along the rugged rocky shoreline, pleasant Victorian homes, and small town charm. Pacific Grove is a picturesque community rich with history, offering beautiful beaches, abundant wildlife, great biking, top-notch restaurants, and unique shops. The famous tide pools found along the PG coast are a great place to observe nature up close, but always remember to look but not to touch any of the sensitive tide pool inhabitants.

Pacific Grove is acclaimed for its marvelous coastline, with rugged rocky outcroppings and magnificent beaches. Asilomar State Beach includes an exquisite sandy beach, spectacular tide pools, and numerous paths that traverse the dunes and hug the rocky shore. Downtown PG has an old-time feel, conjuring up images of a simpler time. It offers a surprising selection of restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, home and garden shops, boutiques, antiques stores, specialty shops, and a movie theater.

PG is known as "Butterfly Town USA", for the thousands of monarch butterflies that take a break from their long migrations and spend their days in the trees of PG each fall and winter. A visit to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary during this time of the year is an amazing experience as thousands of these colorful insects hang on the trees and fly in the air. Butterflies are actually protected by law in Pacific Grove. In fact, harassing a butterfly can lead to a fine of $1000.

Throughout the year Pacific Grove hosts several different festivals and events. The Good Old Days, a late 1800s themed celebration, is held downtown each April and includes a parade, live entertainment, arts and crafts, food and vendor booths, a police motorcycle drill team competition, a fashion show, and golf tournament. The Feast of Lanterns is another popular Pacific Grove event, taking place late July each year. This weeklong celebration includes a fireworks show, music and dancing performances, and a pet parade. The Butterfly Parade is held in early October to celebrate the arrival of the monarch butterflies to Pacific Grove. In this charming parade, local children march down Lighthouse Avenue in butterfly costumes that they create. There is also a street bazaar following the parade.
